Successful seminar on new sealing technologies and alternative packaging materials in Kempten

Great response and consistently positive feedback: The two-day seminar “New Sealing Technologies and Alternative Packaging Materials in the Context of PPWR” on October 22 and 23, 2025, excited professionals from industry, research, and technology. The event took place at the ZLV in cooperation with KLEVERTEC in Kempten, which once again confirmed its reputation as a practical competence center for packaging innovations.

After a welcome address by ZLV managing director Thomas Lux, the program offered a diverse range of expert presentations on current developments in sealing technology.

  • Fabian Kayatz from Fraunhofer IVV explained new approaches related to alternative materials and modern sensor technologies.
  • Milena Seybold (Herrmann Ultraschalltechnik) presented the Valuetainable & Easypeel systems using ultrasound.
  • Dr. Sascha Bach (watttron GmbH) demonstrated how digital sealing combines sustainability and quality.
  • Robert Voggenauer (Profol GmbH) highlighted the role of polypropylene as a key material for the future.
  • Norbert Bunk (TU Dresden) provided insights into simulation of material behavior during phase transitions.
  • Swantje Petersen (KLEVERTEC) concluded with a technology comparison of peelable seals for recyclable cups.

A joint dinner in a relaxed atmosphere rounded off the first day of the seminar and offered ample opportunity for lively professional discussions.

The second day focused entirely on practical work: after a brief introduction and a tour of KLEVERTEC led by Swantje Petersen, participants worked in two groups directly on sealing machines. Various materials and processes were tested — an intensive exchange that met with great interest.

Finally, Ralph Krauss (Hermann WALDNER GmbH & Co. KG) addressed the challenges of industrial sealing of new packaging materials.

The combination of solid expertise, hands-on demonstrations, and interdisciplinary exchange made the seminar a particular success. Due to strong demand and lively interaction, further similar seminars are planned.
