With a focus on practice-oriented teaching and applied research, Albstadt-Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences offers a wide range of degree programmes in the fields of engineering, business, computer science and life sciences. The Faculty of Life Sciences comprises five Bachelor's degree programmes: Pharmaceutical Engineering; Applied Biology - Food and Pharma; Bioanalytics; Applied Nutrition and Food Sciences; Smart Building Engineering and Management. Those seeking a more advanced degree have the opportunity to do so on the Life Science Engineering (M. Eng.) programme and the English-language Life Science Innovation (M. Sc.) programme. The Sustainable Packaging Institute, SPI for short, is also affiliated to the Faculty of Life Sciences. The SPI's research focuses on more sustainable packaging concepts for the life science industry. The SPI pursues the vision of a cycle-orientated bioeconomy. The SPI pursues this vision with its mission to provide competent and holistic support to all players in the packaging industry along the entire value chain in the life science industry on the way to a more sustainable, cycle-orientated bioeconomy. The SPI addresses this mission with its six thematic areas: Biogenic raw materials; Process technology and process design; Functional materials; Smart packaging (active and intelligent packaging); Preservation and packaging and Bioeconomy and sustainability (concepts, evaluation, perception).
